Meeting my Great Grandfather

Contributor: DavidR.BillionGraves@gmail.com Created: 7 months ago Updated: 7 months ago

In April of 1994, our family made a trip up to Utah to visit our great grandparents. My mother, Debbie, told us many stories about summers she spent in Kanab and enjoying her grandparents ranch. This was my first trip to Utah, and it was fun to visit my great grandparents, Rhoana and Alexander Duncan Findlay. As a seven year old I was in awe at their gorgeous home and "mountain" they had in their backyard. They had been quite the travelers in previous years and had many neat things, decorating their home, they brought back from other countries. Being from California it was unique to see a home with a basement that was like a whole other house. We were also quite impressed with all the red dirt. The back yard was unlike anything I had seen before. The amount of bedrooms blew me away. I remember having to be careful around all the special things in each room. Great Grandpa Alexander reminded me of my grandpa, A.D. Findlay, who was his son. He liked sitting in his chair and hearing what I shared with him. Great Grandma Rhoana was polite and proper, and I remember thinking she was fancy in her style. She was sweet and my mind pictures her with an apron on, but I'm not sure if we had done baking with her or if I'm just picturing that. During this trip I fell in love with Utah. We visited other family on this trip as well. We went to see the Salt Lake City Temple while we were there and I decided that is where I would one day get married. As I type this story now at age 33, I can tell you that I didn't end up living or getting married in Utah, but it's still one of my favorite temples to visit.
