Note (by herzig): It being France the law on taking pictures in cemeteries is not clear cut. I went to the Hotel de Ville (City Hall) and spoke with the relevant civil servants, I explaine dto them what I wanted to do and showed them a French website titled "Save our tombs". He gave me permission to take photographs and wrote down his name and number on a piece of paper to show to anyone challenging me in the cemetery. I asked for the groundskeeper at the cemetery, but was told he would not arrive until half an hour after I planned to leave. I assume everything is fine. If you plan to take pictures in Cleremont-Ferrand or anywhere in France, really, I suggest you try this. It doesn't take a lot of time and can be very helpful.
