This densely-filled cemetery not far from the city center was established by the Jewish community of Yangon, Myanmar (then Rangoon, Burma when under British colonial rule) in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. In time, for a community that grew to be sizable, it came to contain over six hundred graves. The last to be buried there dates to the latter decades of the twentieth century. Around 1997, the cemetery was officially closed.
