Cemetery Description

The current name of the cemetery is related to the historic small white-painted church mission at this location. The original name of the cemetery was Lockridge Cemetery, named (but misspelled) after the missionary, Dr. Robert M. Loughridge , who founded and established the Indian church/mission on the site in 1875. The cemetery entrance originally had an archway with the name 'Lockridge' across the top.
As of September 11, 2015, we photographed and transcribed all tombstones in the cemetery which was fairly well maintained. We also eliminated all duplicate entries. However, there are a significant number of unmarked graves and a growing number of unreadable headstone. A 1937 survey of the White Church Cemetery records 200 burials but only 100 tombstones. Find-A-Grave lists 440 persons but today there are just not that many identifiable tombstones. One can find a registry for the White Church Cemetery in a vertical file envelope so marked in the Tulsa City County Genealogy Center. Ken and Cynthia Hunt
