The Tilton Cemetery (Meredith tax map coordinates R8-45) is located in a corner of the junction of Chemung and Meredith Center Roads. This cemetery is 24' x 32' in size, is enclosed by granite, fieldstone walls and has an entrance flanked by 2 cut stone gateposts. There are no gravestones in the Tilton Cemetery. All the old gravestones were taken up and moved to Meredith Village Cemetery in 1983 at the request of the last surviving Tilton descendent. The remains of the Tiltons themselves were never disinterred and moved to Meredith Village Cemetery. Therefore, the gravestones of the Tiltons now sit on an unused Lot in Meredith Village Cemetery while the remains of their owners lie still interred within their original, now unmarked graves in the old Tilton family burial ground off Chemung Road.
