Description

The Thornton Cemetery was the first cemetery in Merrimack New Hampshire. The oldest gravestone is dated 1742. It is the final resting place of Matthew Thornton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. In addition to his gravestone, there is a monument erected in his honor. Across the street from this cemetery is the historic home of Matthew Thornton, where he lived from 1780 to 1797. It is now the Common Man restaurant.
