Also known as Straw Church Cemetery. The cemetery has been associated with Saint James Lutheran Church since 1750. St. James Lutheran “Straw” Church Cemetery is located southeast of Phillipsburg, NJ near the intersection of US Rt. 22 and County Rt. 519. The Church is in Pohatcong Township and the Cemetery is in Greenwich Township, Warren County. What appears to be one large cemetery is actually two distinctly different cemeteries next to each other. St. James Lutheran “Straw” Church Cemetery has been a burial site since before 1770 and is directly across from the St. James Lutheran “Straw” Church. The cemetery is no longer owned by the church and is now an independent, non-profit organization where anyone may purchase plots. There is only one driveway in and out of Straw Cemetery. Traveling on Rt. 22 West, turn right just before the cemetery sign / flag / old brick schoolhouse. Exit out the same driveway turning right onto Rt. 22 West. St. Philip & St. James Roman Catholic Church Cemetery was started after that congregation was established in downtown Phillipsburg in 1860. This cemetery is privately owned by the church and you must be a church member to purchase plots there. Their entrances are on Rt. 519 across from the Phillipsburg-Easton Honda dealership. Be aware: You can not drive between these two cemeteries as there are no internal connecting roadways. *
