Rentie Grove Historical Cemetery

Rentie Grove Historical Cemetery is located at 9436 S. Harvard Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The cemetery established in 1904 is a historical community cemetery serving an old black community called Rentie Grove. The small farming community grew up around the freedmen allotments of Stephen and Luthis Rentie, freed Creek slaves. In the early 1900s, the Renties were each allotted 40 acres near 91st Street and Harvard Avenue. The cemetery is now locked and cared for by the grandchildren of the Renties. It holds the remains of many of the original land owners and their descendants. As of October, 2013, we photographed and transcribed every legible tombstone and grave markers (200+). There are many more unmarked graves located there.
