Description

The original cemetery was closed and those interred were moved here from one in a town known as Ray, also in Pinal County. \n\nFrom a sign or other posting at the cemetery itself:\n\n \"THE RAY MEMORIAL CEMETERY WAS CREATED TO PROVIDE A SUITABLE RE-BURIAL LOCATION FOR THE REMAINS OF THOSE WHO HAD BEEN INTERRED AT THE RAY, CEMETERY IN RAY, ARIZONA. \n\nTHE FIRST RECORDED BURIAL AT RAY WAS ON NOVEMBER 3, 1910. THE LAST ON NOVEMBER 20, 1967. DURING THE INTERVENING PERIOD, MORE THAN 2500 OTHERS WERE INTERRED. \n\nBECAUSE OF BAD RECORD KEEPING IN THE EARLY YEARS, MORE THAN 500 OF THOSE BURIED HAD TO BE CLASSED AS \"UNKNOWN\". \n\nTHE REMOVAL OF THE FIRST REMAINS TOOK PLACE ON JANUARY 15, 1973 AND THE MOVEMENT CONTINUED THROUGH JULY 6, 1973. \n\nAS YOU CAN SEE, WHERE A USEABLE HEADSTONE HAD BEEN PROVIDED AT THE RAY CEMETERY, IT WAS MOVED INTACT TO THE NEW LOCATION HERE. \n\nIN CASE WHERE THERE WAS NO HEADSTONE OR SUITABLE MARKER ON THE ORIGINAL GRAVE, ONE HAS BEEN PROVIDED SHOWING THE NAME AND ANY OTHER INFORMATION AVAILABLE FROM THE RECORDS. \n\nAS REQUIRED BY STATE LAW, A LICENSED MORTICIAN, GRIFFITH AND SONS, SUPERVISED THE DISINTERMENT AND REINTERMENT OF ALL REMAINS. \n\nTHE PEDESTRAIN GATES OF THE RAY MEMORIAL CEMETERY WILL BE OPEN AT ALL TIMES FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF THOSE WHOSE LOVED ONES HAVE BEEN PLACED TO REST HERE.\" \n\nsigned: \nKENNECOTT COPPER CORP.
