The Presidio of Monterey (POM) Main Post Cemetery is one of the most beautiful Army Post cemeteries across the nation. The cemetery was actually rededicated on May 29th, 2010 following a major restoration effort by the POM garrison command office. The restoration efforts consisted of headstone realignments, sprinkler installations, and a major landscaping refurbishment; making it one of the most efficient cemeteries as well. The POM main post cemetery was originally established where the Non-Commissioned officer's club is presently located. Those originally interred there were moved to the cemetery at the Presidio of San Francisco. The new POM cemetery was established at its current location in 1902 and has served the post and community ever since. The number of visitors the cemetery receives and events that regularly take place there are a testament to the continued strong ties with the community and honor we should bestow to our long fallen veterans.
