A large, well-tended and active cemetery. There is one public entrance at the north side on the A1140 Portobello Road (also called Piershill Terrace at that point). Parking is possible on the side streets off Portobello Road. There is a substantial section devoted to Jewish burials in the south-east area of the cemetery. In the north-west, just by the entrance, there is a Pet Cemetery. Famous graves include a memorial to The Great Lafayette, a magician and illusionist, born Sigmund Neuberger in Munich in 1871, who died in a theatre fire in Edinburgh in 1911.
