Peotone Cemetery History At least one document indicates Peotone Cemetery began use as early as 1876, the Cemetery was formally established 5 Jan 1881 when the original homestead owner, Losey Young and wife Christenia granted one acre at no cost to the Office of Peotone, for the expressed purpose of a cemetery. The land originally containing the cemetery passed ownership to John W Porter and his wife Sarah on 15 Aug 1883. In about 1916 Joe Porter and his wife Alice owned and farmed the land and donated about one half acre to the south of the existing cemetery. From Land Abstracts and Peotone Survey dated 12 Aug 1916
