Old Hordle Church Cemetery, Downton

Old Hordle Church Cemetery,is the site of the original Hordle Church which stood here from 1104 until 1830. According to the Doomsday Book, the Church was part of the Priory of Christchurch comprising the Manors of Hordle, Arnewood and Downton. In 1830 it was pulled down and a new Parish Church was built within what is now the Parish of Hordle. Most of the tombstones here date from the 18th Century with earliest recorded burial being in 1722. This cemetery is now maintained by the NFDC.
