Cemetery Description

This cemetery may contain the oldest marked grave in San Juan County New Mexico. It was used in the late 1800s. In 1877 the small community of Flora Vista was created of simple built houses and farms. This cemetery was the burial grounds of as many as 30 of the early residents, including the fatally shot Deputy Sheriff John Blancett and residents who died of the scarlet fever epidemic around 1887. John Blancett’s grave and many others were relocated to the New Flora Vista Cemetery.
