This is what most people think a New England cemetery looks like, but it is not a typical Rhode Island cemetery. Little Compton was originally a Massachusetts town and its early structure, particularly the town green, was quitessential Massachusets. It became a Rhode Island town in 1746. Rhode Island towns had many small churches, most without cemeteries. Massachusets and Connecticut towns were actually parishes of the church in that town.
