Description

The City of Griffin owns and maintains the largest cemetery in Spalding County. Founded by General Lewis Lawrence in 1840, Oak Hill Cemetery encompasses 125 acres, consisting of Old Oak Hill Cemetery, New Oak Hill Cemetery, Resthaven Cemetery, Stonewall Confederate Cemetery and a special military cemetery specifically for Veterans of Spalding County meeting specific residency criteria, along with their spouses, located in the interior of Oak Hill Cemetery. There is also Veterans Memorial Park located across from the Stonewall Confederate Cemetery where an eternal flame has burned continuously since 1969, lighting monuments representing all periods of U.S. wars and conflicts line the park with the names of fallen local heroes in honor of our hometown veterans.
