New Loyston Cemetery was first started by the Tennessee Valley Authority during the "Norris Reservior Project" back in the 1930's. TVA relocated thousands of grave sites that were going to be flooded. TVA granted plots to family heirs to have their loved ones relocated to higher grounds. Many of the unmarked graves are now identified through much research. New Loyston has continued to grow over the years with new grave sites being added yearly.
