Description

Merville est une ville située à 15 kilomètres au nord de Béthune et à 20 kilomètres au sud-ouest d'Armentières. Merville a été le théâtre de combats entre les Allemands et la cavalerie franco-britannique au début du mois d'Octobre 1914. Du 9 octobre 1914 au 11 Avril 1918, la commune est restée aux mains des Alliés. Dans la soirée du 11 Avril 1918, dans les batailles de la Lys, les Allemands ont pénétré dans la ville de Merville et elle n'a été reprise que le 19 Août.
