Description

This historic site, sponsored by the Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution, honors James Hall, Revolutionary War Soldier and the first known doctor in Florida. He died at his home in LaGrange, Fl. (now known as Plummers Cove in Mandarin, Fl.) and is buried in Old LaGrange Cemetery beside Scott Mill Road. According to Sandy at the Mandarin Museum & Historical Society his original grave is on private property and inaccessible. Of further interest, this historical marker has been placed on land once owned by Harriet Beecher Stowe of Uncle Tom's Cabin fame. She and her family made their winter residence in Mandarin from 1867-1884. Her sketches "Palmetto Leaves" is based on her life in Mandarin. This marker can be found behind the Mandarin Store and Post Office.
