This cemetery is at the connecting street of Ninth and Elm Street in the south part of Canon City. The four entry/exit points are on Elm Ave and there is one on the south side on Poplar Ave.
The City Parks Department is responsible for operating and maintaining Lakeside. Lakeside Cemetery is approximately 60 acres in size and has been designated as a perpetual care cemetery and requires intensive landscape management. Parks crews are responsible for irrigating, mowing and trimming the turf grass around approximately 18,000 monuments each week, selling grave spaces, excavating grave spaces, making burial accommodations of various types, coordinating with monument dealers, morticians, and contractors.
WHERE TO LOCATE BURIALS:
Any person trying to locate any person buried at Lakeside should call 719-269-9024 or go to the Cemetery Sales Office at 221 Griffin Ave (North-West corner of Centennial Park) between the hours of 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM, and 1 PM - 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The City maintains an extensive computer database designed to locate deceased members of the community.
Lakeside Cemetery is open to the public from sunrise to sunset. The cemeteries are closed after dark.
Native grass (dry land) sections of Lakeside are not provided with irrigation water and are maintained on an as-need basis. Native areas are not mowed more than a few times each year or as-needed.
Dogs are prohibited.
