Description

The church in ruins was Kill Mhuire (pronounced Kilwirra) which means Mary's Church. Templeton derives it's name from the Knights Templar who took part in the Crusades and Henry II sent approximately 200 of them to the Cooley peninsula. The ancient graveyard contains Templar graves with the insignia of the cross and the lamb.
