In 1827 Thomas Surfleet Kendall took up residence on his family's 500 acre Barroul Estate adjacent to the town of Kiama. The half acre private cemetery on the estate, in use from 1853 to 1948, became the final resting place for Thomas and many of his family, relatives and neighbours. It is now closed. It has been isolated by the Princes Highway & access is now via a tunnel under the highway. The highway noise intruded but it was very peaceful here with mature gum trees, graves in various states of repair, old stone walls & views over the hinterland.
