Description

The Cemetery name is adopted from a nearby stream which native Americans noted for frequently running High. John Stoner donated the original land in 1881 with the first burial on May 31, 1883. Twenty - Five graves from nearby burial sites were re-interred here in 1885. \nThe cemetery expanded in 1894, 1912 and 1936 and was incorporated in 1946. In 1960 a paved driveway was added around and through the cemetery.\nThe High Creek Church was constructed in 1881 at a cost of $2,500. Considerable restoration work was done on the building in 1988-89. Church services have not been held here for many years and the church is used only occasionally for weddings and funerals. It is however open each year for memorial day, and refreshments are served by the High Creek Cemetery Association. \nLocated in the beautiful Missouri river bluffs in a peaceful, picturesque rural setting four miles north-east of Watson, the cemetery is enclosed with a fence and ornamental archway at the entrance and is beautifully maintained.\n
