Green Mount Cemetery is located one mile west of downtown Montpelier, Vermont. Green Mount Cemetery was incorporated in 1854 by the town of Montpelier, aided by a gift of $1,000 by Calvin Keith, a local attorney. A monument to Keith stands in the cemetery. The entrance building was erected in 1905 and serves as both a chapel and a vault. Today, Green Mount Cemetery is composed of 35 picturesque acres. A soldiers' lot was created within the cemetery in 1865, when the town of Montpelier donated the tiny lot to the United States. The 450-square-foot soldiers' lot contains eight interments.
