Description

The Church of St. Francis in the cemetery is located outside the city walls, and was built next to the older monastery in 1490 . The monastery was abandoned in the 19th and demolished in the 20th century when a new city cemetery was organized in its place. The church is a small religious single-nave building with a rectangular ground plan and a square apse. The nave and apse are vaulted with a broken, Gothic barrel vault. On the gable are three semicircular grooved shells. In the cemetery are the coats of arms of the Rab noble families Hermolais, Nimir, Scaffa, Cernotta, Zudenigo, Dominis, Galzigna, Šegota, etc. Three tombstones are more significant. One is Fr. Matija Bošnjak, guardian of the monastery of the third order of St. Frane in Komrčar. The year of his death in 1525 was engraved on a Glagolitic tablet. In 1515, Petar Trogiranin made a tombstone of the Spanish painter Juan Boschet. A relief depiction of all the tools of the craftsman of that time adorns the tombstone of the Senj caulker Mrganić from 1558. https://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rab_(grad)
