Description

Goonumbla is a small village in the central west region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of the town of Parkes. The village was founded in the late 19th century and grew around the Goonumbla railway station, which was established in 1893. The name "Goonumbla" is derived from the Indigenous Australian Wiradjuri language, and is said to mean "hill of bones". The surrounding area was originally inhabited by the Wiradjuri people for thousands of years before European settlement. Today, Goonumbla is primarily a rural community that is home to a small number of residents. The surrounding region is known for its farming, particularly in the production of wheat, canola, and sheep. The Goonumbla Mine, a gold and copper mine, is located nearby and has been in operation since the 1930s. Parish Limestone, County Kennedy
