Description

This is a memorial for the people buried in Eketahuna's first cemetery. A report dated 29th March 1969 states that Councillors Golder and Trevelyan visited the Alfredton Rd site to carry out an inspection of the graves prior to their clearance and subsequent closure of the cemetery. They recorded a rough sketch of the cemetery, the positions of the known graves, and the inscriptions engraved on the remaining headstones they could find. A memorial now stands where the First Cemetery of Eketahuna stood to recognise those buried. http://www.tararuadc.govt.nz/Living_Here/Community_Information/Cemeteries Original inscriptions can be found on the above link for those named on the memorial.
