Cemetery Description

No formal entry to cemetery, very overgrown.
Cemetery is located on 10th Street, just north of Hwy 105 and between the Oakwood Cemetery and the Conroe College.
In the "African American Experiences In Montgomery County Texas," this cemetery is referred to as "the cemetery without a name," or "the community cemetery," the graveyard existed in relative seclusion for decades hidden among the woods behind the predominantly white Oakwood Cemetery at the intersection of 10th Street and Highway 105 East. It is said to be one of the oldest burial grounds in Montgomery County serving as a final resting place for dozens of blacks who settled here during the post Civil War era.
The listing of burials were cataloged by Oveta and Horace Wright on 7 Apr 1978, and are found on page 86 of Montgomery County Texas Cemeteries, Vol. V, Montgomery County Genealogical Society, 1982.
This cemetery is in desperate need for cleanup and restoration.
Research of records and on the land is ongoing to attempt to identify those buried here. Contact Jon at huntingforebears@gmail.com if you are interested in restoring this cemetery or performing research to identify the residents.
