The Chora Menino Cemetery is located in the North Zone of São Paulo, was founded in 1897 by the Municipality of São Paulo in the District of Santana, in the current Chora Menino neighborhood, which in the past was known as "Capão das Cobras". Chora Menino Cemetery has an area of ​​38,485 m2. Its mausoleums were built in the middle of the last century by the emerging families of the region. O Cemitério Chora Menino tem uma área de 38.485 m2. Seus mausoléus foram construídos em meados do século passado pelas famílias emergentes da região. Por ter sua área localizada no Distrito de Santana, mas onstruído no Bairro Chora Menino, é conhecido como Cemitério Municipal de Santana e também como Cemitério Chora Menino. Assim sendo, NÃO são dois cemitérios diferentes, mas um único cemitério com duas denominações: Cemitério Santana/Chora Menino. Este cemitério abrigou em seu terreno, até o ano de 1970, um cemitério judáico que, posteriormente, foi desativado. O velório do Cemitério está localizado na Rua Nova dos Portugueses, 141, no bairro Chora Menino, mas sua entrada principal é na Avenida Imirim, na altura do número 323. O nome Chora Menino Conta-se que no período de 1898 até 1970 houve uma grande epidemia de varíola na cidade de São Paulo, epidemia que atingiu principalmente idosos e crianças. Na Zona Norte, onde está localizado o cemitério, a doença atingiu mais os jovens os quais eram sepultados no cemitério e em cuja capela pais choravam a morte de seus filhos. O Cemitério passou a ser conhecido como Chora Menino.
