Description

In Mountain township, the English Cemetery (or Baldwins Bridge Cemetery) is located along Dundas county road #3, west of Baldwin’s Bridge which crosses the Nation River. This community was also known as Boyd’s Bridge. According to J Smith Carter’s “Story of Dundas” (1904), “In 1837 a large stone church (St. Peter’s Anglican) was built about two miles east of South Mountain. This church was surrounded by a burying ground, while hard by was the parsonage, with 25 acres of land attached. The church site was a donation from the John Baldwin, Sr. During Mackenzie’s (minister) time the old church had become greatly delapidated And was taken down” [page 199]. The monuments have been moved and are now located together. I suspect that the cemetery contains more than fifty burials.
