Description

A small German Catholic cemetery in Mount Oliver, a neighborhood of Pittsburgh, sits on top of an urban hill. It has some striking monuments, including the Winter Brothers' obelisk which is said to be 100 feet tall. Another, the Good Shepherd Monument, marks the area where local priests have been buried. Many of the graves are from immigrants and their families from the second half of the 1800s, while fewer are more recent. It has never been known as the Allegheny Cemetery, but sometimes is referred to as the Arlington Cemetery because it stretches along Arlington Avenue. There is an Arlington Cemetery outside of the city and, unfortunately, another St. Peter's Cemetery in the eastern half of the city, adding to confusion. NOTE: some names and dates were researched in Find A Grave. In Find A Grave this cemetery is listed as being located in Mount Oliver, PA.
