Description

Agudath Achim Congregation was formed in Beaver Falls about 1879. The synagogue was built at Fifth Street & Sixth Ave in Beaver Falls between 1912-1914. The congregation later moved to New Brighton and then Chippeau. The synagogue no longer exists.\n\nLand for the Agudath Achim Cemetery was purchased by the congregation on Nov. 16, 1906. Six acres in Patterson and White townships were purchased from Mrs. Sarah E Craighead for $507. Through the years, as the need arose, land was cleared and landscaping and walks were installed. Prior to the establishment of the cemetery most burials for local Jewish families were in Pittsburgh, except for those few who were buried at Tree of Life Cemetery (now known as Steinfeld Cemetery) in New Brighton.\n\nAdjacent to Agudath Achim Cemetery is a family cemetery formerly owned by the Solomon/Salmon family. That cemetery was deeded to Agudath Achim.\n
