Description

The Humble Pipeyard Cemetery is located in Harris County, Texas, It is just north of the City of Humble and is located about 200 yards north of FM 1960 by-pass which runs along the north side of Humble. The Cemetery is the result of the incorporation of Humble as a city in 1933. At that time, City Council voted to enforce racial segregation. By 1935, most Blacks moved outside of city limits. There is no obvious road to the cemetery. You have to park near the 1960 Bypass and walk thru trees or park in an industrial park and cut across the railroad lines and holes in fences. The cemetery is in really bad shape. Members of the Grace have undertaken an effort to clean and restore it. In November of 2014, we took pictures and transcribed all of the readable tombstones which numbered only 11. There are dozens of destroyed grave locations and even more metal posts or pvc pipes which appear to mark the location of unmarked graves. Ken Hunt
